In Narragansett, Rhode Island, between the Harbor Refuge and the Point Judith Lighthouse, a single large boulder rests in the breakwater. Every visit reveals a lone gull perched at the peak, holding court for passerby. Draw closer, and he will eye you suspiciously, but he has yet to fly away. Perhaps, like me, he is entranced by the music: The small waves create a perpetual rhythm of tumble, break, and hiss, and nearby the water retreating over a large bed of small stones produce the sweet sound of seaside maracas. There is music in the air, and beauty at every turn.
