In 2003, I was contacted by a woman in California and asked to create a Mosaic Cross as a Garden memorial to her mother.
Measuring approximately 36" x 22", this mosaic cross was created using very small pieces of hand cut porcelain and glass tile. The work contains a symphony of textures and colors - including many of her Mom's favorite colors - which give it an energy that radiates throughout.
My goal for this piece was that it should be alive and vibrant and a celebration of life - just as much as a commemoration of a loved one's passing. I wanted it to serve as a precious reminder of her Mom and how truly special she was to all who knew her... most especially to her beloved daughter. I also wanted the beauty (as her Mother's) to communicate to anyone entering the garden.
The mosaic memorial cross will stand as a permanent marker, testifying that even in spite of the impermanence of this life, love and goodness, beauty and truth live on forever.
