Not far from Point Judith Light in Narragansett, Rhode Island, there is a dusty dirt road that is all but hidden by sea grass. If you can find the entrance, drive down it, for at the end lies a beautiful vista of a quintessential New England seascape. With the Lighthouse on the left, the cottages dotting the shoreline to the right, and in the distance beyond the sailboats is Block Island. But the main feature of this idyllic spot is the rocky breakwater that strecthes out into the deep. Closer to shore, this scene inspired me: the play of light upon the rocks, with the warm tones of the sun and the cool hues of the shade; The green moss, the blue water, the white foam - you can almost hear the clap of the breaking waves, the hiss of the settling foam, the cry of the gulls, and smell the perfect sea air.
