Bus Mural

In 1996, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation commissioned The Art of Life to design and paint a mural on a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus.

Our mission on this mural project was two-fold: To highlight the Department of Transportation's URBAN YOUTH PROGRAM - which involved the planting of trees at the Rhode Island Welcome Center and the East Bay Bike Path - and to teach and work with students on the creation of the mural.

Since the students we were working with were also part of the Urban Youth Program, we thought it would be wise to include them in the mural - depicted with brushes in hand painting the mural on the bus.

Some portraits show the reflections of the young people, and this symbolizes that good works reflect well not only on oneself, but also in society.

Following are photo's of each side of the bus, taken in the days before digital cameras were invented....
